Robin Hood Defender of the Crown game guide/walkthrough

Robin Hood Defender of the Crown strategy guide

    I. General observations:

Robin Hood Defender of the Crown is an expansion of the first Defender of the Crown game.

The most important change in this game is that this time the main character is the famous outlaw who steals from the rich to give to the poor.

    – Most moves in the game are done by clicking on images with the main characters at the top of the screen. For example, if you want to organize raids, you have to click on the figure of Robin Hood.

    – in order to win all the battles, you need armies. To recruit new soldiers you need money.

    – there are two ways to earn money: sword fighting and archery raid, each of these missions have different goals and rewards.Robin Hood Defender of the Crown archery raid

    – Throughout the game, you will learn more about these two missions.

    – in sword fighting, you must attack the enemy with the sword. To do this, left mouse click multiple times to attack. To defend yourself from any soldier’s retaliation, right click on the mouse.Robin Hood Defender of the Crown sword fight

    – also at the end of each turn, you get extra money. Total revenue at the end of each turn depends on the number of territories you control. The more territories you occupy, the higher your income.

    – To recruit new soldiers in the army, click on Little John’s figure to open a new menu and click on recruit forces, then click on a province to recruit soldiers.Robin Hood Defender of the Crown - Little John

    – Your forces in this game are divided between the campaign army and the county garrisons. You can only use the campaign army to attack other enemy provinces. To defend the provinces you conquer, you must recruit soldiers and garrison the newly conquered territories.

-in the campaign, for England, your armies will have the following units: footman, knights, catapults, archers, and peasants.

    – The ideal composition of your campaign army would be the following: 200 archers, 100 knights, and 150 peasants.Robin Hood Defender of the Crown - battlefield

    – price for each type of soldier is:

    peasants: 1 pound

    archers: 4 pounds

    footman: 5 pounds

    knights: 15 pounds

    catapults: 25 pounds

    – on the battlefield, attack the enemy cavalry with archers, then order the knights and peasants to attack the center of the enemy armies.

    – As you advance in the campaign, you have to get rid of the villains in England: Sheriff of Nottingham, Guy of Gisborne and Prince John. If you want to progress in your campaign, you have to win each duel.

    – very important: before conquering Prince John’s castle, do not forget to pay the 10000 pounds reward for King Richard’s release, otherwise the end of the game will not be a happy one.

    – The more money you give to the king’s release, the more soldiers will join your cause.

For example: If you have reached half the reward, 50 knights will join your army.

II. The main characters in Robin Hood Defender of the Crown:

    Good guys:

    1. Robin Hood

We all know who Robin Hood is. The great outlaw who steals from the rich to give to the poor. As the name of the game says, he is the main character. Robin is responsible for organizing raids against enemy castles and caravans. Basically, the big outlaw is responsible for a big part of the necessary revenue for your campaign.

    2. Maid Marian

Robin Hood’s sweetheart. Respected at the Courts of Lords and therefore having an important influence. Its main skill is to spy castles and other enemy provinces to reveal the number of stationed troops.

    3. Little John

Robin Hood’s best friend. Little John is funny and good at conversation. In this game, John is responsible for recruiting soldiers and is the leader of the campaign army. Basically, he is the commander of Robin’s troops and the chief responsible for the siege of enemy fortifications.

    4. Wilfried of Ivanhoe

Ivanhoe is one of Maid Marian’s most important contacts, he will show you the kingdom and being the only knight he can participate in tournaments. If you win a jousting, you can easily take a province and receive a sum of money.

    5. Friar Tuck

Friar Tuck appears from time to time to offer advice to Robin and his family. He is also in charge of collecting money for Richard the Lionheart’s reward.

    6. Will Scarlet

Robin’s nephew, he’s exactly the opposite. Cruel and eager for revenge, but his importance in the story is minor. He appears only for plot advance.

    Bad guys:

    1. The Sheriff of Nottingham

Robin Hood’s first big opponent, Sheriff sees Robin as a real obstacle to his plans and does not hesitate to challenge him on every occasion. After losing control of Nottingham he will challenge Robin to a decisive duel.

    2. Guy of Gisborne

An assassin hired by Prince John to catch Robin Hood. Rebellious against enemies and allies. He does not know what loyalty is. He does not have a decisive role in the game and appears only for plot advance.

    3. Prince John

Richard Lionheart’s brother and the usurper of the throne of England. He is the main responsible for the civil war. The leader of the strongest faction in the game, his armies are marked with purple. His castle is in Cornwall.

III. Robin Hood Defender of the Crown: Sherwood forest campaignRobin Hood Defender of the Crown - Sherwood Forest

Sherwood Forest campaign is more of a training camp, here you will learn the basics of this game.

On the left side of the map, marked green is the hiding place of Robin Hood and his outlaws. On the right side, marked with purple, is the base of the Sheriff of Nottingham.

The campaign starts with a dialogue between Sheriff and the uncomfortable merchant you robbed. The Sheriff manages to raise an army and wants at any cost to reach your hiding place to conquer it. Your objective is to stop him.

In the first two laps of the campaign, you can only select Robin Hood (the only character available). With his help, you can organize two raids against the Sheriff’s caravans or even against the main base.

A successful raid on the enemy’s base can bring you between 100-150 pounds.

If you want to respect the legend of the master of archers and believe you have a good target, you can attack two caravans, the winnings would be similar.

In the third turn of this campaign, you will meet Little John, one of Robin’s best friends. He will also be the commander of your troops. He is responsible for everything regarding troops, from recruiting to attacks on armies and enemy castles. As you probably guessed, you need money to recruit soldiers.

As you progress in the game, more and more units will become available. In the Sherwood Forest campaign, two units will be available: peasants and archers. Try to recruit at least 200 archers and 150 peasants in the campaign army before the last attack on Sheriff’s base in Nottingham.

When you get control of your troops, Sheriff’s troops are right next to your hiding place. If Sheriff conquers your base, the game will end with your defeat. Do not waste your time! Recruit the required soldiers and launch the attack and route the Sheriff’s soldiers.

Conquer the bridge region and fortify the garrison with additional troops.

In order to make money, you have to organize several raids with Robin Hood against the base and caravans.

This stage of the game will end when your army will march victoriously against the Sheriff of Nottingham.

A short video will appear where you and the heiress celebrate the great victory.

The victory in Sherwood Forest campaign does not mean the end of the game, Maid Marian has an important mission for you. England is in a civil war because of Prince John’s actions. Maid Marian wants you to save the country by ending the civil war between the barons and Prince John and by rescuing King Richard.

IV. Robin Hood Defender of the Crown: England campaign

Your initial position in this campaign will always be in Nottingham (North East England). You are exactly at the intersection of the castles of four lords.Robin Hood Defender of the Crown - England Map

Lords locations will change every time you start another campaign.

In the path of your victory against Prince John, there are four rebels lords who have the same goal as you (to get to Prince John’s castle in Cornwall).

Remember now, if an enemy lord conquers John’s castle before your armies, your mission will end with a great defeat. Do not rush to conquer John’s castle in Cornwall. For the entire campaign to end successfully, you must pay the 10000 pounds reward for King Richard the Lion. Friar Tuck will occasionally appear, click on his character to pay the reward. Try to pay as much as you can. Remember that you will also need funds for castles and armies. When you have paid all the rewards, then you can try to siege Prince John’s castle.

In this campaign, there is no diplomacy or another way to defeat enemy lords.

The castle of an enemy lord lies north of your initial position, two lords are in the South or South East, and another lord is in the West. The Lord of the South is closest to Prince John’s castle, but do not worry because John is at the beginning of the game the most powerful opponent in England and can successfully defend against the initial attacks.

There are three strategies you can use to conquer England successfully:

    a) Defensive Campaign

Conquer Yorkshire and collect as much money as you can to build a fortress and recruit soldiers to put them in the garrison.

With Robin Hood’s help, he organizes raids against the enemy castles for money. Try to get control of the northern provinces.

To obtain the total control of the North you need to eliminate the baron from the northern castle.

When you manage to obtain control of catapults, do not waste your time and order Little John to attack the castle.

A tutorial will tell you what a siege requires.

Once you have gained control of the north you will have a safe source of income.

To assure the total security of the North, you need to build as many fortresses in key provinces and put garrisons in them. Castles discourage attacks by enemy armies and in case the enemy decides to attack, however, garrisons in the fortress will cause the opponent big losses. The enemy army weakened by siege can easily be defeated by your campaign army.

When you have finished controlling the North, you have two options: either march with your troops westward to the second lord, or you can head against the two lords of the south and destroy them.

Both options have their advantages. If you head west you are dealing with one force and it will be easier later in the campaign. As you deal with the West Lord, Prince John and the other lords will attack each other.

Also, if you want to stop the lords of the South from reaching Prince John, you can direct your forces directly against them. Usually, the Lord in the West is not a serious threat and can easily be conquered.

It is best to eliminate all the enemy lords on the map to keep the battle between your forces and those of John.

From here you know what you need to do, conquer the Cornwall castle to finish the game.

    b) Offensive campaign

If you’re a fan of blitzkrieg campaigns, you can try this strategy.

For starters, however, do not forget to fortify your initial base. Organize 3 raids against enemy castles to make money for a larger campaign army. Try to reach 200 archers, 120 knights, and 150 peasants.

Your army’s route should be similar to your defensive campaign. You conquer the north, but this time you do not have to join the fortress construction.

The essence of this strategy is the old saying, “The best defense is the attack.” For every offensive action of the enemy, you must respond with counter-attack to defend your territories. The idea is not to let a baron’s army occupy a lot of territory without resistance.

Also, if you’re the kind of commander who wants a lightning campaign, you’d better go straight with your armies directly to the castles of the barons and conquer them quickly. Unfortunately, you can not do this from the first laps, because you do not have the ability to recruit catapults, but when you get control of the siege machines, do not hesitate to siege all the enemy forces.

With the collapse of a castle, the baron’s armies disappear instantly, the enemy force being thus removed from the action.

This strategy can be successful in short-term, in the long run, when Prince John takes control of a fleet and can organize surprise attacks on provincial ports, it is good to build castles in the provinces threatened by such attacks, otherwise, the situation may get out of control.

    c) Mixed Strategy

You have to use a little from the strategies outlined above. It is important to know when to defend yourself and when to attack. Prudence is the key to this strategy.

Attack when you know you can get maximum benefits and defend where you see the danger is greatest.

Just because it is a major problem it is very important to understand the extent of this disease and its consequences in order to fight it. Before presenting the main statistics, it is necessary to define this disease.

Diabetes mellitus (DZ) is a chronic disease in which the body can not use glucose in the diet.

Glucose is the body’s main energy source, but in order to be used, it must enter into cells. The entry of glucose into cells is done using insulin, the hormone secreted by the pancreas.

Diabetes occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin or does not use it properly. High blood glucose levels cause severe complications. The main consequences of this disease include heart disease, vision problems and even blindness, kidney failure.

Tropico 5: How to gain independence

    tropico 5 game walkthrough

    I Introduction

Obtaining independence in Tropico 5 is an important event during El Presidente’s campaigns.

In contrast to other games where the passing of time means advancing into another era, the situation is different in Tropico 5. Advancing from the colonial era to the World Wars era is conditioned by El Presidente’s success in the struggle against the colonial power that has appointed him.

If you want to find out how you can quickly obtain the island’s independence, watch this game guide.

    II Governor mandate term limit

At the beginning of the game, you’re not a dictator, you’re just a governor appointed by the crown with a maximum term of five years. When this term ends, you are automatically kicked out and the game is over. One more reason to try to support the fight for independence.

Fortunately, you can extend this mandate if you fulfill missions that the colonial power assigns to you. Missions are like those below, many of them involving the construction of economic buildings or export of certain products considered important by the colonial power.Tropico 5, crown missions

tropico 5 crown rewardsTropico 5, how to extend mandateTropico 5, crown missions

If you complete these missions, the colonial power will reward you, one of the rewards is the possibility to extend your mandate by 6 or 12 months.

    III Factions

In the colonial era, the island’s political landscape is dominated by two factions (royalists and revolutionaries). These factions are totally opposed ideologically.

The royalist faction has the majority at the beginning of the missions and as you probably guessed is the main adversary of independence. This faction is represented by Lord Oaksworth.Tropico 5 game guide 1

The revolutionaries’ representatives (this faction is led by a woman named Evita Vasquez) are numerically overwhelmed at the beginning of all missions. . Revolutionaries, represent the progressive and left elements of the island.Tropico 5

If you want to get independence for your island, the revolutionary faction must represent over 50% of the total population, only then you can go to the next step. But before we discuss how to increase the percentage of revolutionaries on the island, we need to learn how to consolidate the economy during the colonial era.

    IV Building the economy

The first priority is to construct buildings that will bring you profits.

In the colonial era, you only have access to a single industrial building.

In order to get the necessary income for the island’s prosperity, you need to build ranches (cattle, goats, pigs or llamas), plantations (cocoa, sugar or tobacco) and when you research shovel technology try to build a mine or two.

Do not forget to search for a profitable trade route at the dock (left click on the building and click on the trade to open all possible trade routes).

In my opinion: 8 ranches, 8 plantations and 1 or two logs and one lumber mill should be enough for a stable income.

When you build the plantations try to focus strictly on the products that make profit (coffee, sugar, tobacco).

Also, do not forget to build another teamster office to transport farm and ranch production quickly to the dock. Building another dock is also beneficial if you want to find a better commercial deal.

V ResearchTropico 5 research tech tree

When you finished with the problem of income it’s time to deal with the research chapter. To access the search, click on the green chemistry icon at the bottom of the screen. In this way you will discover the tech tree in Tropico 5.

In order to discover the new technologies that will help you in the game, you need research points. Research points are generated by libraries, colleges, science labs and observatories.Tropico 5, building a library mission

In the colonial era, you can only build libraries. One would be sufficient, but to find the technologies faster, two libraries are enough.

In the colonial era, you must uncover the trigger technology so you can build military forts.

These military forts are essential in the fight for independence. Besides helping to increase the number of revolutionaries, these forts help to strengthen the armed forces on the island.

    VI Obtaining  independence

Build 4-6 guard towers near ports to defend your island.

When support for the revolution is over 50%, Penultimo, your most loyal supporter, will tell you that now is the time for independence.

An exclamation mark, colored in red and yellow will appear above the palace. Before you click on it, build 3 forts.Tropico 5 exclamation mark

These forts will give you two extra infantry units ready for the fight.

Click on the sign above the palace and declare independence.Tropico 5, time for independence

Now it is the time for the great choice. The crown will not gladly receive this news and will present to you two options. The first is to buy your independence with $ 20,000. In my opinion this is a bad and useless option.

The second is the beginning of the battle against the soldiers that the colonial power will send to suppress your rebellion. This is, in my opinion, the best option.

Usually the forces of repression are in number of 3 infantry units that your forces can defeat without difficulty.Tropico 5 invasion

With the victory of your troops, your island advances into the world wars era.

Terrorists from ISIS began to lose ground in the war in Iraq and Syria. American forces, along with local troops, discover horrible things about the Inferno that these terrorists have unleashed during terrain recovery: from common graves with hundreds of victims to car parks left behind by terrorists.

A set of photos shows some of the modified cars of ISIS. They are ordinary cars transformed either in armored or in kamikaze cars meant to carry hundreds of kilograms of explosives that are then detonated with a suicidal driver on board.

We can see in these images a Kia Sportage, a second-generation Hyundai Santa Fe, and a first-generation Hyundai. Otherwise, it is not clear what cars are hiding under massive armor. But, of course, civilian cars are turned into war machines. Some are equipped with weapons, others are only armored so they will not be affected by bullets until they reach the destination, where they have to be detonated and make havoc.

These cars were tuned quickly and easily. With large pieces of thick steel sheet, covering all the exterior panels of the car. In some cases, no wheels are seen, and the driver has a small hole through which he can look forward. However, it seems that these cars have not started to be used. Maybe you wonder why these machines were not used during the fighting in Mosul?

The first and perhaps the best reason is that the engines of these vehicles are broken.

The second reason is that the armor that made them invincible to the bullets and enemy projectiles has contributed to their poor mobility and technical problems.

Fortunately, the massive front armor seems to not let the engine cool, and it glows and eventually drops. And until the terrorists managed to install other engines, the good guys came and found them in time to prevent further innocent victims.

80 great Sun Tzu quotes that will help you conquer all obstacles

80 great Sun Tzu quotes that will help you conquer all obstacles

Sun Tzu was a Chinese general who lived more than 2,500 years ago, possibly during the 6th century BC. To this day, his advice inspires legions of leaders to motivate others to success, honor, and glory in their different metrics and forms.

The Art of War is one of the oldest war treaties, if not more. Although military tactics and conditions have changed since the time of Sun Tzu, his teachings would have influenced, according to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, some modern generals like Mao Zedong in the battle against the Japanese and Chinese nationalists, and it would be possible to imagine that they had helped several other leaders in recent wars.

Considering the current social and geopolitical context, we can say that today, this book is destined to be a guide for another type of war: that of companies in the business world. Thus, The Art of War serves as a handbook for both military strategists and economists.

Here are 80 great Sun Tzu quotes that will help you conquer all obstacles and succeed every time:

1.“Know yourself and you will win all battles.”Sun-Tzu-quotes2.“So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

3.“You have to believe in yourself.”

4.“Ponder and deliberate before you make a move.”

5.“ Thus the expert in battle moves the enemy, and is not moved by him.”

16.“Attack is the secret of defense; defense is the planning of an attack.”

17.“Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win.”

18.“To win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.”Sun Tzu quotes that will motivate you19.“If there is disturbance in the camp, the general’s authority is weak.”

63.“But a kingdom that has once been destroyed can never come again into being; nor can the dead ever be brought back to life.”

65.“You can be sure of succeeding in your attacks if you only attack places which are undefended.”

67.“Be where your enemy is not.”
68.“In battle, there are not more than two methods of attack–the direct and the indirect; yet these two in combination give rise to an endless series of maneuvers.”
69.“So there are five ways of knowing who will win. Those who know when to fight and when not to fight are victorious. Those who discern when to use many or few troops are victorious. Those whose upper and lower ranks have the same desire are victorious.”
70.“In war, then, let your great object be victory, not lengthy campaigns.”
71.“Can you imagine what I would do if I could do all I can?”

72.“The art of giving orders is not to try to rectify the minor blunders and not to be swayed by petty doubts.”

73.“To know your Enemy, you must become your Enemy.”

74.“It is only the enlightened ruler and the wise general who will use the highest intelligence of the army for the purposes of spying, and thereby they achieve great results.”

75.“It is the rule in war, if our forces are ten to the enemy’s one, to surround him; if five to one, to attack him; if twice as numerous, to divide our army into two.” Sun Tzu important quotes 76.“Order or disorder depends on organization; courage or cowardice on circumstances; strength or weakness on dispositions.”

77.“By reinforcing every part, he weakens every part.”

78.“Of old the expert in battle would first make himself invincible and then wait for his enemy to expose his vulnerability.”

79.“ Move swift as the Wind and closely-formed as the Wood. Attack like the Fire and be still as the Mountain.”

80.“Quickness is the essence of the war.”

Infographic: 9 dangerous habits that can damage your liver

    liver disease causes

9 food habits that can damage your liver

The liver is the largest internal organ in the body and is involved in many functions, such as digestion, metabolism, storage of nutrients, and the removal of toxins.

There are many foods and habits that can damage the liver:

    1. Excessive sweets consumption

Too much sugar has a negative impact on the body, especially fructose, which is difficult to assimilate, being transformed into fat that is deposited on the organ, producing liver steatosis.

This is why moderate consumption of candy or confectionery containing sugar is indicated.

    2. Sedentarism

This is the main cause of obesity. An obese person also has an increased risk of developing non-alcoholic steatosis and, ultimately, of cirrhosis. The risk is higher if overweight people suffer from diabetes.

It is important to remember that these liver disorders can be prevented by combating sedentarism and eating a healthy diet. That’s why it is very important to practice regular physical activities, regardless of their type.

    3. Supplements in excess

Even if they have a beneficial role in the health of the body, taken in excess and especially without the recommendation of a doctor, vitamin supplements can cause liver disease. The most dangerous for the liver are vitamin A supplements.

    4. Automation with analgesics

There are people who have the habit of taking analgesics without any medical recommendation and for any pain. Frequently taken without the recommendation of the family doctor, analgesics can destroy the liver.

Also excessive drug use, such as antidepressants, corticosteroids can cause liver damage

    5. Excessive drinking

This is a real enemy of the liver. More specifically, alcohol absorption by the liver favors the appearance of fatty liver, inflammation of the liver and eventually the onset of cirrhosis.

    6. Avoiding breakfast

Each person has a limited, low glucose reserve in the morning and if he does not eat anything at breakfast, the liver will not have the energy necessary for optimal functioning.

You should never omit breakfast because you will not get the energy you need for the activities scheduled on that day.

    7. Salt in excess

Excessive salt intake increases blood pressure, but can also lead to certain liver diseases caused by water retention in the body.

    8. Unhealthy food

Many foods are harmful to the body today.

Also, people’s habit of fasting, stressing, jumping over the main meals, and replacing healthy, home-cooked foods with fast-food can cause some liver-related complications.

    9. Fizzy drinks

There are studies showing that a lot of carbonated beverages increases the risk of liver steatosis. It is advisable to avoid consuming these drinks and replace them with natural, home-made juices.

The victory of the Cuban revolution in color photos

Victory of the Cuban revolution surprised in unique photos

    Beginning of the Cuban Revolution

On August 5, 1951, Eduardo Chibas, leader of the Cuban Orthodox Party committed suicide during a radio broadcast. Chibas was probably the most important Cuban leader at that time, recognized for criticizing government corruption and gangsterism.

Before shooting himself, Eduardo Chibas announced that Fulgencio Batista was planning to take power through a military coup. On March 10, 1952, three months before presidential elections, Fulgencio Batista staged a coup with the support of the army and took power.

Eager to consolidate its regime, Batista has adopted a hard line against the Communist Party and other opposition movements. The US, fearing the rise of communism in Cuba, chose to support the dictatorial regime.

In this context, on July 26, 1953, Fidel Castro organized the assault on the Moncada barracks in Santiago de Cuba, the second largest military garrison in the country, an action that would be the beginning of popular insurrection to overthrow the dictatorship, but his failure temporary reinforced the regime. Unable to oppose Batista, Fidel Castro fled to Mexico.

    Victory of the Cuban Revolution

In Mexico, Castro organized the expedition of the Gramma yacht that landed in Cuba in November 1956. Despite its initial defeat, Castro and his 26th of July Movement (M-26) created a guerrilla force in Sierra Maestra, Oriente province. This would be the main base of the Rebel army.

From 1956 until 1958, the armed forces led by the dictator Batista tried unsuccessfully to destroy the Rebel base. Also, the general strikes of city workers and peasants from sugar fields played an important role in the victory of the Cuban revolution.

After defeating the military siege on Sierra Maestra, at the end of 1958, the columns of the Rebel Army led by Che Guevarra and Camilo Cienfuegos defeated Batista’s army in the battle of Santa Clara. This decisive victory of the insurgents has accelerated the fall of Batista’s regime. A five-day general strike made it possible for the insurgents to enter Havana in January 1959, marking the end of the dictatorship.

Main consequences of the Cuban Revolution:

-Cuba becomes the first communist state in the Western Hemisphere.

    -nationalization of the industry.

a new agrarian reform. The properties were to be redistributed and foreigners were no longer allowed to buy Cuban land

-education and health have become the main priorities of the government led by Castro.

-mass literacy campaigns were launched, new schools and universities were created

-free services were established (water, electricity, gas, telephones).

-the revolutionary government tried to reduce wage differences between workers.

-approximately 1 million Cubans, dissatisfied with Fidel Castro’s policies, have left the country.

-the US issued an economic, commercial and financial embargo against Cuba.

For a better understanding of the most important historical event in Cuba, here are some unique photos that show us the triumph of the Cuban Revolution:

10 technologies that changed the course of history

Technologies that changed the course of history

    10: Chariots

technologies that changed the course of history 1The battle chariot is the earliest and easiest type of carriage used by the ancient peoples for both military and civilian purposes. The first battle chariots were built in Mesopotamia starting with 3000 BC. And in China during the second millennium BC

Starting with 1800 BC However, the chariots developed, dropped in weight and fitted with spiked wheels. The top performers were so light that the driver could lift them overhead. The leader, along with an archer, stood behind the horse-drawn cart. Thus, the chariot has become a fast fighting machine. For pedestrian soldiers, chariots became a nightmare – while sharp-bladed wheels were making a bloody road between them, they were hit by the arrows drawn by the archers or were simply crushed by them. The use of battlefields quickly spread from the West Asia and Egypt to India, China, and Europe. Rich states built thousands of chariots, which dominated the Middle East struggles between 1800-1200 BC.

    9: Gunpowder

technologies that changed the course of history 2Gunpowder, also known as the black powder (Schwarzpulver) was the first explosive substation discovered by humans and is now only used in pyrotechnics for the production of fireworks missiles.

Once spread, gunpowder allowed the civilized peoples of Europe and Asia to dominate the barbarians. On the other hand, it brought the end of the longest-running empire in history.

Because of the fortifications in his capital, Constantinople, the Byzantine Empire was unbeatable. The three layers of walls made Constantinople the most fortified city. No siege equipment in the world of those times could break through these walls. However, the Turks led by Mohammed II brought 8-meter cannons and with the help of gunpowder, pulled the massive guns to the walls, demolishing them. It marked the end of the Byzantine Empire and the medieval battle style, based on defensive defenses on the fortified castles.

Rifle dust until today’s explosives are discovered is the only explosive material used in artillery or other firearms. In the first half of the nineteenth century, nitroglycerin and dynamite were gradually introduced. Today gunpowder is used only for the production of fireworks missiles.

    8. Rifle gun barrelsWhitworth rifle

During the American Independence War, colonial troops used the Brown Bess muskets. In terms of a musket with a muzzle-loading smoothbore, the precision and maximum efficiency were very small (50-100 yards or 91. The bullet trajectory of these weapons was not right. The situation would change with the evolution of weapons using polygonal rifling. During the American Civil War, the Confederate troops used Whitworth rifles that had this technology. The effective range of the Whitworth rifle was between 730-910 meters, a big difference from the weapons used in the war of independence.

By adding grooves to the barrel of a weapon the precision is dramatically increased, also the resistance of the gun is not affected.

Groove barrels also revolutionized artillery and naval warfare. The enemy could shoot without seeing each other from great distances.

    7. Internal combustion engine

technologies that changed the course of history 4The internal combustion engine has changed the size and speed of wars, from World War I to the present. During the first global conflagration, the machine gunners waited in front of the carts drawn by the horses to bring the necessary ammunition.

During the Second World War, German troops were driving their camps at distances of up to 97 km per day, thus conquering the territory from the Polish border to Moscow in only six months. By the end of the war, one of the first V-2 ballistic missiles could destroy a target 322 km away in just 5 minutes.

Internal rotary internal combustion engines are used on a smaller scale due to high technological problems and lower reliability. The most common type of rotary internal combustion engine is the Wankel engine, but there are other solutions, for example with scissor bits, or with various other systems.

    6. Aircraft

technologies that changed the course of history 5An aircraft is any equipment capable of moving through the air to carry out a useful transport and keeping it in the air is carried out by means of other air reactions than those on the ground suction.

Airplanes led the war in the sky. Italy was the first country to use aircraft for military purposes.

During the war for the conquest of Libya against Turkey in 1911, the Italians sent planes to find, pose and Turkish bombing targets. At the beginning of the First World War, Germany, Austro-Hungary, France and the United Kingdom had hundreds of airplanes in the Air Force. Initially, planes were sent only for spying.

In the Second World War, the US bombed Tokyo, killing 80,000 people and leaving another 1 million homeless. Eventually, bomber Enola Gay launched an atomic bomb, killing over 100,000 civilians and injuring many thousands.

    5. Radio

technologies that changed the course of history 6At the beginning of the 20th century, radio systems transmitted messages only in the Morse Code. The first attempts to develop an amplitude modulation system for voice and music were demonstrated in 1900 and 1906, but they were not too successful. World War I accelerated the development of radio for military purposes, and in that era, the first vacuum tubes were installed in transmitters and radio receivers. Electronic amplification has been a crucial improvement in moving from an expert experimental practice to a home appliance.

After the war, in the 1920s, commercial radio broadcasting started and became a media environment for news and entertainment.

World War II has accelerated the development of radio for war purposes in air and ground communications, radio and radar navigation. After the war, the television experiments that were interrupted were resumed, so it became an important entertainment environment at home.

To coordinate their movements, pilots, and soldiers communicated by radio. Using the Blitzkrieg, the German army marched through the Netherlands, Belgium, and France in just 10 days.

    4. Microwave radar

technologies that changed the course of history 7The radar has radically changed both the defensive and the offensive. It was the first personalized view of the enemy. Even during the First World War, surveillance of the enemy involved the stationing of a soldier in the field looking through binoculars and reporting what he saw by phone to his commander.

The radar also changed the face of the naval war. During the Second World War, the German submarines torpedoed British and American ships crossing the Atlantic. But once equipped with radar airplanes, they could spot and bomb the submarines.

    3. Nuclear Weapons

technologies that changed the course of history 8For hundreds of years, military theorists have been talking about a weapon so terrible that no one can use it. Finally, everyone agrees that nuclear weapons can not be used. They have, however, been used against people twice.

In 1945, the US launched two atomic bombs on Japan to put an end to their resistance. The use of the bombs marked the end of WWII. The Little Boy, the first of the bombs, contained fissionable uranium, and at the time of the explosion sent a shock wave over Hiroshima, killing 90,000 people. The second bomb, “Fat Man”, contained fissionable plutonium, the explosion killing 35,000 people in Nagasaki.

    2. Spy satellites

technologies that changed the course of history 9The US launched the espionage program via the Discoverer satellite, which allowed it to observe the speed at which the Soviets were creating the missiles and to what targets they were aimed at. Discoverer 4, the first US space camera, was launched in 1959 but did not get into orbit, but Discoverer 14 was released in 1960 and transmitted images. But paranoia was reciprocal, with the Americans being watched by USSR`s espionage satellites.

Contemporary spy satellites can do much more than just taking pictures. They can also collect phone, radio or internet signals.

    1. Global Positioning System – GPS

technologies that changed the course of history 10The first GPS system, “Jones Live Map,” was invented by J.W. Jones, in 1909. The device was the first automotive guide system consisting of several discs printed with maps that showed the driver the direction by handling special dials. The discs covered 100 miles of well-known roads, mapped by The Touring Club of America. Every 100 miles, the disk had to be changed. Until 1919, the system invented by Jones covered more than 500 US routes from New York to Los Angeles.

It best illustrated this change in the Gulf War, Iraqi’s advantage of fighting on its own land in the desert, being annihilated by the GPS, allowing Americans to move lightly, even at night or during sand storms. Moreover, they always knew precisely the location and position of the enemy.

At the same time, GPS has increased the precision of air strikes. Satellites map targets and guide bombs and missiles, minimizing collateral damage and civilian casualties.

Rush for Berlin: Soviet Campaign walkthrough

    Rush for Berlin Soviet Campaign

Are you interested in video games whose action takes place during the Second World War? You should try Rush for Berlin. In this game, the player has the option to choose between four major campaigns in the Second World War: Russian, German, Allies, and French. In this Rush for Berlin game walkthrough, I will cover the Soviet campaign. Why? Because I think it is the most important of the whole war. If you want to become a master in this game, this walkthrough might be useful:

    General observations:

    – best Soviet combat units: IS-2, recon cars and katyusha rocket launchers.

    – most powerful Nazi weapons: howitzers, Jagdtigers and Panther V tanks.
    – at the end of each mission you get medals depending on performance.
    – the end-of-mission score is also performance-related.
-you can see the performance, looking at the top bar of the game during a mission.
    – you are deprived of heavy artillery support in the struggle against the Nazis. To compensate for the lack of artillery, try to use recon cars and katyushas.

-do not launch an attack with a single type of unit. For example, an attack only with tanks has a good chance of failure.

-Rush for Berlin focuses more on tank and infantry battles. Aviation and artillery have a secondary role.

-In Rush for Berlin campaigns, frontal assaults is a good way to loose most of your troops, always try to find an alternative way. Try to flank the enemy troops.

    RUSH FOR BERLIN: SOVIET CAMPAIGN
    MISSION I: LIFELINE
    Objectives:
    1) Neutralize the German Howitzers
    Optional Objectives:
1)Lead at least one tank throw the marshlands
-wait for the arrival of the armor at the beginning of the mission. This way both vehicles will survive at the end of the mission.
    Secret objectives:
    1)Destroy 4 German panzers.
    - The panzers are along the trail on the frozen lake.
Fortunately, they are all blocked in ice and can be destroyed by infantry.
    2)Forester Found
    Walkthrough:
On the briefing part of the mission, select the political officer, medic, and soldiers and press the start button.
Rush for Berlin: The initial position of your troops.
The initial position of your troops.
You start the mission on the eastern side of the map. You have 4 infantry units, a doctor and an officer, be careful not to lose them. Two T-34 tanks will join, but they will not be immediately under your command. If you want to get control, you need to complete the secondary goal. To guide the tanks, you must light the firewood to indicate the correct route.
Resistance at the beginning of the mission is minimal (4 German soldiers and two wolf packs).
Visit the southwestern village of the minimap to get the right route for your tanks.

There is an agent in the village who will give you the details. Immediately on the minimap, there will be yellow flashes with the correct locations for the tanks.
Now the difficult part of the mission begins. In the swamp, there are four blocked Germans and some German infantry units.
Rush for Berlin:First German panzer position
    First German panzer position
Do not attack them all at the same time. Try to attack them separately. And very important, make sure your doctor stays alive.
With the officer and the 4 infantry units, they quickly approach each panzer. Infantry units when near a tank start to use the mines to blow it up.
Rush for Berlin: Second german tank position
    Second German tank position
From my point of view, this goal is easy to reach and you can finish it before the main ones.
Complete the route to get the tanks. Unfortunately for me, only one tank will be able to pass well over this stage.

    T-34 under your command.
Now with your tank and infantry units, you can attack the German base. Its defense is weak (some units of infantry, 2 snipers and one officer).
To neutralize the Nazi Howitzers simply right click on them to attack them and your troops will do the rest. The mission will end when German artillery is completely destroyed. A cutscene will appear with the supply train to Leningrad.
MISSION II: HOW THE STEEL WAS TAMPERED
    Objectives:
    1) Contact the partisan leader
    2) Stop the train
    3) Save at least two blast furnace
    Optional Objectives:
    1)Capture the artillery
    Secret objective:
    Save all blast furnaces
    Walkthrough:
This is the initial position of your troops when you meet the partisan leader, you will get reinforcements.
Rush for Berlin: Sovier Campaign mission 2
The initial position of your troops in this mission
Your immediate goal is to stop the Germans, the train transport uranium so it's vital.
Rush for Berlin: Soviet Campaign mission 2
The position of the partisan leader
The road to the train is covered by two German bunkers and an outpost. You can attack them directly with your forces, the losses should be minimal. When you get into the base, a stopwatch will start. If you fail to finish your goal before time runs out, you lose your mission.
Once you have overcome this obstacle, go to the yellow spot to change the switch so the train does not leave.
    Rush for Berlin Russian Campaign
Location of the train you need to stop
After you have changed the switch you have to act quickly, remove the German troops near the blasts and ensure their defense. The Germans will send five engineers to destroy them. You have to find them in time and eliminate them all before they reach the factories. If they manage to get near buildings they will put bombs and your mission will end with a defeat.
Do not leave any factory without defense.
Rush for Berlin: Blast Furnance mission
    Blast Furnance location
You need 2 infantry units at each factory and you can use the sniper successfully. Also, the T-34 tank, if still intact, can be used to detect saboteurs.
    MISSION III: CROSSFIRE
    Objectives:
    1) Destroy 50% of the enemy boats before they escape
    2) Capture the bunkers in order to destroy more boats
    Optional objectives:
    1)Capture the Factory
    2)Capture the Lighthouse
    Secret objectives
    Walkthrough:
Things now get complicated. Sevastopol is full of tanks, anti-tank guns, and traps for your armor.
You have at the beginning of the mission of 3 T-34 tanks and one SU-72. Use them with caution. If damaged, repair them with tractors.
Rush for Berlin, russian campaign, mission 3
Start your attack from this position
To begin with, conquer the bunkers indicated on the map with the letter B. Each bunker is guarded by tanks and German anti-tank weapons. Also, the bunkers are garrisoned, so you have to bomb them to force the Germans to evacuate them.
It's best to use a combination of infantry and tanks. Do not attack targets only with tanks, otherwise you risk losing them all.
When you conquer a bunker, order an infantry unit to enter it. Put a standard infantry unit in each bunker.
    Rush for Berlin, bunker attacks
Attack the bunkers to eliminate the garrisons
When you go to Goal 2, you'll understand why it's important.
Try not to destroy the German anti-tank guns, it's enough to eliminate the crew that manages them. The guns can be used to sink German ships.
Although you are told to conquer all bunkers, the Germans begin evacuation after you manage to capture only 3 of them. Fifty ships will try to escape.
Make sure you sink at least 25, otherwise the mission will end with a disaster.
Rush for Berlin: Soviet Campaign mission 3
Take position with the troop on the shores
If you placed the anti-tank guns and the tanks at the shore (near bunkers), the mission is as fulfilled.
If you want more firepower, you can capture the lighthouse for an artillery bombardment (located north of the bunkers)
    MISSION IV: SWORD OF BAGRATION
    Objectives:
    1)Occupy the factory
    2)Secure the bridge
    Optional objectives:
1)Assist the partisans in defending the village
    2)Take the railway station
    Secret objectives
    Walkthrough:
The big offensive that will drive the Nazis out of the USSR is about to begin. In this mission, you will be fully supported by Soviet tanks.
This mission is in most cases a large tank battle.
Rush for Berlin: Sword of Bagration mission
    Sword of Bagration mission
Between your initial forces and the first objective are 3 Panzer V and 4 outpost tanks. Remove them quickly and occupy the base.
German Base in Rush for Berlin
    First German Base: Capture it!
The factory will help you build more tanks. Best builds T 34-85. They are more effective in fighting Panzer V.
Although the occupation of the train station is optional, it would be good to complete this objective because the Germans get reinforcements through this route. If you manage to take up this position you will receive 3 IS-2 tanks, the best Soviet armor.
Helping the partisans is not mandatory, but if you want to help them send 4 standard infantry units and a tank, be careful not to leave the base without defense. If this optional goal is completed, partisans will offer support with a secret route of attack.
German Howitzer in Rush for Berlin
    Eliminate this Howitzer
Now the difficult part of this mission begins, in the north, the Germans have a fortified line. Grounds in front of trenches, 2 Jagdtigers, and 2 Königstiger tanks stand in your way towards the final goal.
It is best to attack the line from the left flank, in my opinion, the defense is weaker here. Send sappers to destroy the anti-tank mines, otherwise, the losses will be great. After crossing the trenches, you need to remove fast the German artillery or they will wreak havoc on your troops.
If you see that German tanks are many, do not continue fighting at any cost, withdraw and repair your armor.
In the northwest is a factory under German control. Conquer it, and you've stopped the enemy's tank reinforcements.
Sword of Bagration mission final objective
Sword of Bagration mission final objective
After you take the factory, go with the tanks on the bridge and complete the final goal.
    MISSION V: BOYS OF BELGRADE
    Objectives:
    1)Destroy the King Tiger
    2)Enter the German HQ
3)Stop the Abwehr spy before taking off
    Optional Objectives:
    1)Capture the Depot
    Secret Objectives:
    1)Panzer commander couldn’t escape
    Walkthrough:
In this mission, you cannot produce new units so take care of what you have at the beginning.
    Rush for Berlin: German KingTiger
    German KingTiger location
The first objective, quite simple, is to destroy the German tank. Get close to it with the initial troops so you can attack with grenades.
Shortly the Red Army units will come into action.
    Rush for Berlin: Belgrade Mission
Red Army and Partisans before the attack
There is no time to lose, the Yugoslav partisans will attack the German positions, you have to help them destroy the Germans.
After you help the partisans, their troops will come under your control.
Your troops after the success of the first attack
The next objective is to capture the German HQ. Several German units guard this goal. It should not be a problem to conquer it because you do not have to deal with heavy weapons or a fortified enemy.
Garrison a unit inside the captured German HQ.
    Rush for Berlin: German HQ
    German HQ location in Belgrade
After that, you will be told that you have 4 minutes to get to the stadium to take care of the goal.
The stadium is west of the HQ. All you have to do is destroy the two 88 mm anti-tank guns to finish the mission.
    Last objective in this mission
    MISSION VI: SEELOW HEIGHTS
    Objectives:
    1)Occupy the enemy HQ.
    2)Destroy the four howitzers.
    Optional Objectives:
    1)Capture the enemy factory.
-the enemy factory is located east of the HQ.
    Secret objectives:
    1)Both Barracks captured.
    Walkthrough:
You start the mission with a factory headquarters and barracks. You also have 4,000 units of resources.
Create a defensive line with tanks in front of the factory.
The location of the Soviet tank factory
The Germans will not wait for your assault and they will start an attack on the factory. The protection of this unit is vital.
Do not forget the other positions. When your defense is ready, proceed to the next objective.
Your first goal is to quickly eliminate all German howitzers. As long as these cannons remain operational, all your assaults will suffer heavy losses.
It starts by removing the howitzer that is closest to your bases.
First German Howitzer position, now gone.
You can quickly reach him through a swampy road to the east. You need 3 tanks, snipers, 3 standard infantry units, and a few physicians. The first cannon is the weakest of all (2-3 tanks and infantry units + a barracks).
You can also use a recon to supervise the field before the attack and use the air strikes to weaken the enemy.
Location of the third German Howitzer
After you've destroyed the first enemy cannon, build more Katyusha rocket launchers 2,3 recon cars and 4 IS-2 tanks. With these forces go south to the second howitzer. The second cannon is defended by a Panzer Maus and a Tiger. With the tanks try to lure them, and eliminate them from a safe distance with Katyushas. Do not forget to avoid the shells from the howitzers when you do that.
The third cannon is near a hill, it should be lightly defended. To destroy the last cannon, send a recon car over the bridge and use air strike to destroy the 88mm cannon that blocks the road. You can send another recon to the cannon and call an airstrike.
The German headquarters is located on the southwest side of the map.
Rush for Berlin: Seelow Heights mission
German HQ location in this mission
The road to this goal is blocked by minefields, German tanks (Tigers, Panther V) and 88mm anti-tank guns. Also, the entrance to the headquarters is within the reach of one of the howitzers.
A frontal assault is not an option, so the best solution is to eliminate the German artillery first.
Near the headquarters is a German tanks factory that you have to conquer to stop German reinforcements.
The location of the Nazi tank factory(main objective)
The location of the Nazi tank factory(main objective)
MISSION VII: THE FALL OF BERLIN
    Objectives:
    1) Secure the Brandenburg Gate
    Optional Objectives:
1)Clear the defenses around both Flak Towers
-although this objective is optional is best to complete it. If you manage, the Soviet aviation is going to support you with airstrikes.
     2)Neutralize the German Tank Ace.
-the German tank commander is in a Panzer Maus. Your best chance is to destroy it with Katyushas.
    Walkthrough:
The last battle against Hitler is about to begin. You have at the beginning of this 4,000 units resource, but you cannot call for reinforcements. Take good care of the tanks you have, because in the first stages of the mission you cannot replace them.
First of all, garrison the two Katyushas, these rocket launchers will prove decisive in this mission.
Rush for Berlin: Soviet Campaign final mission
Initial Soviet Forces in Berlin mission
The Germans have fortified the whole city, each street is a trap for the tanks. Therefore, the frontal assaults in any situation are a bad idea.
Adopt the following strategy. With two IS-2s and a T-34 testing the ground, rocket launchers should track them. When you get in touch with the enemy, he orders the tanks to withdraw for repair. Because the launchers have a larger range of action, they will bomb the targets from a distance without being exposed to enemy fire. When you finish the bombardment, order you rocket launchers to withdraw for resupply.
You need to repeat this process at every corner of the street so the losses are minimal.
    Best strategy for this mission
Use this strategy to eliminate the defense around the first Flak Tower (west of your troop's initial position).
Rush for Berlin: First Flak tower location
    First Flak Tower Location
Two, three armored and two 88 mm cannons defend this position. When you eliminate all the defenders around the flak tower a cutscene will appear, and the German defenders inside the Flak Tower are neutralized.
Assemble your troops on the channel near the canal before attacking the target.
    Assemble the troop here
Headed north with your troops to a depot under German troops, if you conquer it, you will receive reinforcements (1 reckon car and 3 Katyushas).
Capture this depot for more reinforcements
The German army is defending this position with 2 howitzers, 2 anti-tank guns, and 3 panzers.
    Soviet reinforcements
It uses the same strategy as the Flak Tower, it is best to attack this position from the west.
With the elimination of the Nazis in this sector, it is now starting the harder stage in the mission.
Cross the canal using the middle bridge and use the strategy I recommended.
    Cross this bridge
If you neutralized the first Flak Tower, the Soviet airplanes certainly bombed the German units guarding the bridge. Quickly cross the bridge with tanks, rocket launchers and truck repairs and head southwest.
If you look more closely in this area, the Nazis have a tanks factory.
Rush for Berlin: German tank factory
Capture this factory and use it to produce more tanks
As long as the factory is under enemy control, Tiger tanks will continue to harass your troops.
It is best to conquer it and the resources you will have to build as many T-34 tanks. Use the reinforcements to destroy the German defense around the last Flak Tower. The Germans will thus be deprived of anti-air defenses.
The position of the second Flak Tower
The position of the second Flak Tower
You have one goal to conquer: the Brandenburg Gate. You have to take two deposits to complete the mission. The two warehouses are defended with the most formidable Nazi tanks.
Three Jagdtiger tanks destroyers are in front of the Brandenburg gate itself.
    Advance with your troops here
In a damaged building located nearby there are 3 Tiger II (Königstiger) tanks.
Rush for Berlin, Soviet campaign final mission
The last German location you need to capture.
The Nazis also have a Sturmtiger and a Hertzel. If you have been cautious so far, you can use Katyushas to remove them from a safe distance.
If you lost the rocket launchers, use T-34 tanks to neutralize the last German resistance. The losses will probably be higher but you will succeed.

When you're done, take the two depots.
    Mission accomplished!

How Germany has changed since Merkel came to power?

How Germany changed under Merkel`s leadership

In November 2016, Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, announced her intention to run for the fourth term in the supreme position of the state. Her main opponent is former President of the European Parliament, Social Democrat Martin Schulz. Schulz resigned from office in order to run against Merkel. Elections for Chancellery will be held on September 24, 2017. At the beginning of this year, the situation seemed favorable for Martin Schulz.

According to opinion polls, SPD and CDU had reached equality in voting intentions. In March, Schulz is unanimously elected president of the SPD, becoming officially Merkel’s main rival.

But almost immediately after this historic election, the SPD suffered the first blow during the Saarland state election, where the CDU candidate won 40% of the votes, and the Social Democrats gathered only 29%. This first election was the first test for the main political parties in Germany before the main elections in September.

At the same time, it represents the first failure of the SPD with Schulz in the role of president. Unfortunately for the Social Democrats, the series of electoral defeats does not stop there. After a short period of equality in early polls, the CDU began to catch up. On May 7, Merkel’s party won another victory after elections in Schleswig-Holstein.

But the worst defeat for Schulz comes from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous province, considered a stronghold of the SPD. Following this regional election, the Christian Democratic Union won a last significant victory over its opponents 4 months before the decisive election.

After counting all the votes, the CDU obtained 33.0% and the coalition of SPD and Green suffered significant losses.

The SPD is the third and largest election failure this year. These failures cast doubt on Schulz’s chances of replacing Angela Merkel as Chancellor in the September elections.

However, Schulz showed himself optimistic about his chances and urged the party to focus on the main elections.

In the context of these important elections for the future of the largest economy in the EU, it is important to know some of Angela Merkel’s achievements, the country’s most important political personality since 2005.

We present you an infographic that highlights how Germany has changed since Merkel’s coming to power:Merkel infographic

24 important facts about the WannaCry virus

Everything you need to know about the WannaCry cyberattack

The WannaCry ransomware virus took the whole world by surprise and managed to provoke chaos. This virus once again proves how vulnerable computers and companies around the world are to cyber attacks. We also find that hackers are still improving their attack techniques and their threat has never disappeared. Here are 24 important facts about the WannaCry cyberattack:

I First attacks and mode of action

    1. The first attacks took place on May 12th.

    2. Originally it was believed that the virus was spreading through email attachments.

    3. WannaCry is classified as ransomware. A Ransomware is a malicious program that infiltrates a device (computer, server, smartphone) and encrypts all files in storage, virtually blocking users from accessing them. But the program does not stop here: after encrypting the files, it displays a message telling the victim that if he wants to use his device again, he has to pay in order to recover the files.WannaCry: what you should know

    4. For other cyber attacks, hackers used email addresses with suspicious attachments. But for WannaCry, there was no need for any user action to spread the virus.

    5. The virus exploited a security vulnerability in older versions of Windows (XP, Vista).

    6. The security breach that hackers used was originally discovered by the American NSA secret service.

    7. Hackers were initially asking for $ 300 in the bitcoin currency. If you did not pay the requested amount within 7 days, the ransom value would double, and after another week the hackers would delete the data.

    8. What happens if you pay the ransom? There is no guarantee that hackers will keep their word. There are many situations where data has been deleted, even if the reward has been paid.

II Countries and institutions affected and spreading speed

    9. On the first day of the attack, 74 countries were affected including Russia, Germany, and Turkey.

    10. According to Rob Wainwright, Chief of Europol, 200.000 computers have been infected in 5 days.Number of countries affected by Wannacry?

    11. The WannaCry virus has disrupted activities in over 150 countries.

    12. Russia is the most affected country. About 60% of all affected systems are in this country according to Kaspersky.

    13. About 1.000 Russian Interior Ministry computers were affected by the WannaCry virus.

    14. in the UK due to virus 16 hospitals were forced to temporarily interrupt their work and patients were relocated.

    15. In France and Romania, WannaCry ransomware caused the temporary interruption of activity in the Renault and Dacia plants.Renault hit be WannaCry

    16. FedEx, the US courier giant has reported problems with sending mail and delivering orders.

    17. WannaCry has disrupted the work of Japanese companies Nissan and Hitachi, but it seems that the impact is minimal in this situation.

    18. Many Chinese gas stations have stopped accepting card payments after their systems have been infected.

    19. Because most software`s in China are pirated, the virus has spread here very quickly. Approximately 100.000 computers have been hit.

    20. Which operating system was most hit by the WannaCry virus? Answer: Windows 7.

    21. Marcus Hutchins, a cyber security expert in the UK, aged 22, succeeded in slowing down the virus’s expansion after buying an Internet domain.

III What do we know so far about hackers?

What do we know about the WannaCry hackers?

    22. Despite the problems they have caused, the attackers have collected only $ 55.000.

    23. Russian President Vladimir Putin blamed the United States for the WannaCry virus.

    24. North Korea is behind the biggest cybernetic attack this year according to the information of some specialists. But it is too early and the evidence is not enough to prove this suspicion.

5 newest countries in the world

In 2014, the Scots were faced with a big decision about the direction of their region. If they had decided to separate, they would have become the newest state in the world.

Looking at the recent history of the world, we find that borders are changing faster than we think, in an increasingly tense international context. Changes, of course, bring new challenges and instability.

    I. SOUTH SUDANNewest states in the world

South Sudan is the newest state in the world. It gained independence on July 9, 2011, separating itself from the majority Arab provinces after a civil war that lasted for decades. The US also played an important role in getting the status. But the young state is confronted with major problems, including generalized poverty, internal conflicts between the many political groups and unexploited natural resources. Degeneration in another civil war caused the exodus of 1 million people.

II. KOSOVO5 Newest states in the world

Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008. The area has been under UN administration since 1999 when NATO forced the withdrawal of Slobodan Milosevic’s troops from the strongly ethnicized province. The state has not been recognized by all UN member states, and for security reasons, it has not even asked to be part of the organization. The major problems of this new state are weak economy, high unemployment, and ethnic division.

III. MONTENEGRONewest states in the world

In 2006, Serbia and Montenegro separated into two states after proclaiming a state union in 2003. Montenegro’s referendum was decisive, with the people voting for the end of the union. Since independence, Montenegro has applied for the EU, entered the World Trade Organization and recalled the royal family from exile. Overall, the country has a favorable evolution. Serbia also follows pro-European policies, while maintaining traditional co-operation with Russia.

IV. EAST TIMORNewest states in the world

East Timor gained independence on May 20, 2002, although the referendum that ruled in favor of it was organized years ago. But after that, the region was subjected to violence by pro-Indonesian militias, and the UN sent forces for stabilization. But it was too late, the Indonesian punishment expedition caused great human losses and most East Timor infrastructure was destroyed. The country’s evolution is a good one, thanks to profits from large oil reserves.

    V. SOUTH OSSETIASouth Ossetia independence

It is also worth mentioning South Ossetia, a separatist zone in Georgia whose independence declared since 1990 was only recognized in the Russian-Georgian war in 2008 but only by a small number of states such as Russia, Nicaragua or Venezuela. The country, therefore, has only a very limited recognition, being one of those gray areas of frozen conflicts in the post-Soviet space. Political dissensions and precarious economic conditions keep Ossetia in a permanent tension.

Infographic: How powerful is Russia`s defense industry?

    russia infographic

Russia took over the position of Saudi Arabia in 2016, despite the precarious situation of the economy, ranking third in the world in terms of military expenditure, after the US and China, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

Last year Russia has allocated 69.2 billion dollars defense budget, or 5.9% more than in 2015. This is equivalent to 5.3% of its GDP, an unprecedented situation after the collapse of the Soviet Union now fourth Century, according to SIPRI.

This increase in spending and the heavy burden put pressure at a time when the Russian economy is in a difficult situation because of falling oil prices and economic sanctions imposed in 2014 by Western countries following the conflict in Ukraine

Saudi Arabia, which had its third budget in 2015, dropped fourth in 2016. Its military spending fell 30 percent to 63.7 billion dollars, despite the involvement of the state in several regional conflicts.

As a result of the unstable economic situation and the low price of the oil barrel, many countries that depended on oil exports have been forced to cut military spending.

The US remains the No.1 budget, which increased by 1.7% in 2016 to 611 billion dollars. Followed by China with 215 billion dollars, ie an increase of 5.4%, less quickly than in previous years.

Donald Trump, who became president in January, made the army’s budget a priority. He has already shown that he will not hesitate to use force, bombing in April an air base in Syria and positions of the Islamic State in Afghanistan. He also threatened North Korea.

After a series of terrorist attacks in 2015 and criticized by Donald Trump for a contribution to NATO he considers to be low, Western Europe has increased its military budgets for the second consecutive year by 2.6%.

Almost equal to India, the fifth, France has its sixth military budget ($ 55.7 billion), ahead of the UK (48.3 billion).

The tendency for rearmament is sensitive in Central and Eastern Europe as well as in the Baltic countries. “The rise in the cost of many countries in Central Europe can be attributed in part to the perception that Russia is a bigger threat,” said an SIPRI researcher, Siemon Wezeman.

Even if Russia’s defense budget has reached a record high, the common defense budget of NATO member countries is four times bigger.

18 astonishing images from Norilsk, the northernmost city in the world

Norilsk is a mining town with a population of over 175,000 inhabitants. The average temperature is -10 ° C and reaches a minimum of -55 ° C in winter. For two months a year, the city is plunged into the polar night, when residents can not enjoy the sunlight.

The entire city, its mines and its metallurgical factories were built by nearby Gulag prisoners from Norillag between 1920-1930. Of the 500 000 prisoners subjected to forced labor. According to statistics, about 18,000 of these prisoners died of cold and hunger. However, many of those who survived in Norilsk chose to remain here after the end of Stalinism, to live and work in the mines they have built. Other milestones in the industrial expansion of the city were in 1949 and 1981. Today, 60% of the population is involved in the industrial processes of the city: mining and metallurgy. The city includes the largest heavy metal smelting complex in the world, producing more than 20 percent of all the planet`s nickel, 50 percent palladium, 10 percent cobalt and 3 percent copper. The total length of the underground galleries exceeds 800 km and the depth can reach 2050 meters. The exports of this city account for more than 2 percent of Russia’s GDP.But industrialization comes with a price, Norilsk is the 7th most polluted city in the world. Almost 4 million tons of copper, cadmium, nickel, arsenic, sulfur and other chemicals are released annually in the air. “Days of Night / Nights of Day” is a unique photographic project about the everyday life of the citizens in Norilsk, the northernmost city in the world. The project was made by photographer Elena Chernyshova and she wants to talk about the life in a unique city. Let’s look together at these incredible photos. In the past two weeks, North Korea threatened the US with a nuclear war, tried to launch a missile test (April 15), held a military parade in which it presented a new arsenal of war and said it would do a new nuclear test, which would be the sixth in the past 10 years.

This suggests that the tensions between the US and North Korea are not just a consequence of the attitude of Donald Trump. North Korea, even if it does not yet have ballistic missiles that can hit the US anytime, proves they have the technology and are closer than ever to this goal through ballistic tests. Also, the pace of nuclear bomb construction is higher than ever.

The attitude and lack of an appropriate strategy from Donald Trump may trigger a full-scale nuclear war. Regardless of the leader in the White House, North Korea is now a serious threat that must be dealt with.

To understand better the opponent that the US faces is important to know something about the North Korean people led since the early 50 by Kim dynasty. As you know, North Korea is probably the most closed country in the world as a result of the censorship imposed by the totalitarian regime.

The photos that illustrate the living conditions in this country are therefore rare. The very attempt to take pictures is a true act of heroism. Photographs that are caught by authorities that do this in the best situation are choosing to destroy pictures. Others have done years in prison. But some photographers did the impossible.

Because of their courage, the world can see the true North Korea face, one that is not covered by the propaganda of the Pyongyang regime. From these photos, we see how far North Korea is from the civilized world and how backward are the people currently led by Kim Jong-Un. Let’s look together at these photos from North Korea:

Infographic: Marine Le Pen vs Emmanuel Macron

Marine Le Pen vs Emmanuel Macron. Who will win?

Two days before the presidential election in France and after the last evening’s televised debate, centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron leads in polls, according to an Elabe survey before the Paris attack.

But after the recent terrorist attack in Champs Elysees, everything is possible.

Until now, almost every past presidential election in France was a struggle between candidates from two major parties – the Socialists and the Republicans. Now the situation has changed dramatically.

These elections are marked by the rise of populist and extremist parties.

Polls show a tight struggle, voters are undecided, and the stakes are very high: this is a vote that could rebuild Europe or destroy it. Two things are certain: no candidate will win the presidency in the first round and Marine Le Pen will enter the second round in any situation.

According to opinion polls, Marine Le Pen loses in the second round against any candidate due to the mobilization of voters against it. But the fight is not over yet, until the last round of elections on May 7th anything can happen. Turnout and undecided voters will decide the winner. Already big companies in France are preparing for the worst scenario.

For a better understanding of these elections, we created an infographic with key campaign promises made by Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen. Infographic: Marine Le Pen vs Emmanuel Macron

12 interesting facts about Stephen the Great

12 interesting facts about Stephen the Great

Stephen the Great, ruler of Moldavia managed what others thought it was impossible. When he took power in 1457, Moldavia was surrounded by powerful and dangerous enemies (Ottoman Empire, Poland, Hungary), always ready to attack. In this very difficult political context, Stephen the Great managed through his victories and diplomatic ability to keep its reign for 47 years.

Although much has been written about Stephen the Great, a representative figure in Romanian history, there are many myths and historical facts lesser known, even distorted, about bravery, about life and especially about the work of the founding of cities, churches, and monasteries.

    1. What did the Moldavian leader look like?

The real face of Stephen the Great is little known today. There are many fantastic reproductions. According to experts, many of these portraits are inspired by late paintings on the walls of monasteries or churches. Until the late nineteenth century, many academics imagined that Stephen the Great was an ascetic leader, with a large mustache and beard and a crown of Byzantine inspiration. Stephen the Great portrait

Only one book from that period with the image of the voivode survived. The manuscript can be found today at the Humor monastery.

In this book the Moldavian ruler appears as a small man, thin, pious, dressed in a royal mantle decorated with precious and semiprecious stones, with a crown on his head.

    2. He had four wives and two mistresses.

There is the myth that the prince had girlfriends and mistresses in all the provinces of Moldavia, the idea is supported by letters from the royal courts in Iasi, Vaslui, Roman, Bacau etc. In these letters it appears that Stephen the Great, after administrative, political affairs etc in places where stopped, asked for mistresses to be bought in the evening. However, there is nowhere mention that they have been in the prince’s bedroom. In most cases, the stories about the love affairs of the Moldavian leader are simple exaggerations. According to historical sources, we know for sure that he had four wives: Marusca that was married in 1457, Evdochia of Kiev (1463), Mary Mangup (1472) and Maria Voichiţa (1480). Only the first wife was not from a great nation, the rest being made of interest marriages. The prince had only two mistresses appearing in historical sources: Călţun in Braila (married woman and morals) and Harlem Maria, a fisherman. The rest of adventures, which is said to have been in the hundreds, can not be proved.

    3. He had 10 children: seven boys and three girls.

Alexander was the first son of Stephen the Great, a child conceived with Marusca. Second wife, Evdochia of Kiev, gave him three children (Elena, Bogdan, Iliaş) – who all died during their father’s life. Maria of Mangup couldn’t offer any son, so he divorced her (the other wives died). With the fourth wife, Maria Voichiţa, he had four children: Bogdan III (the successor to the throne), Bogdan Vlad, Anna and Maria Chiajna. With each of the two mistresses had one son: Mircea and Petru Rares.

    4. Of 42 battles in which he fought, he lost five.

    Stephen the Great defeats
Map with the Battle of Razboieni(1476)

Although it was said that Stephen the Great won all the battles, he had five crushing defeats. On September 22, 1462, he lost the siege of Chilia. In July 1476, Sultan Mehmed II routed the Moldavian forces in the battle of Razboieni. After an ottoman siege, Chilia and Cetatea Alba are lost on 9 august, 1484. The Moldavian ruler suffered another great defeat against the ottomans in 1485 when he tried to reconquer Chilia.

    5. Founder of cities, churches, and monasteries.

There is a legend that raises a monastery or a church after every battle. In reality, he fought in 42 battles and there are 36 churches whose founding is assigned. According to historians, between the years 1457-1487 the ruler of Moldavia has built and repaired fortresses. The construction of monasteries and churches has been a priority in the years 1487-1504, ie the latter part of the reign. Most of them were built on the site of older construction or continuation of existing bays.

    6. Putna Monastery was not originally built by Stephen the Great.

    Putna Monestery
    Putna Monestery

It is believed that the monastery was founded by him because he was buried there. In fact, the first ruler, Dragos Voda, built a wooden church at Volovăţ, which he then moved it to Putna. Around this small church, the founder of Moldavia, Bogdan I founded the monastery at Putna. Stephen the Great was the one who restored it and developed it during 1466-1469.

    7. Relations with his cousin Vlad the Impaler.

Stephen the Great's cousin Vlad the Impaler
Stephen the Great’s cousin Vlad the Impaler

Relations between the two great personalities were influenced by several events. For example, Stephen the Great took power in Moldavia with the military support of Vlad the Impaler.
But in 1462 relations between the two princes are deteriorating rapidly. While Vlad the Impaler was struggling with Ottoman armies led by Mehmed II, Stephen the Great take the opportunity and attacked the city of Chilia, controlled by his cousin`s troops.
Relations between the two were resumed after 1475 when the Moldavian leader has negotiated with the Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus to release Vlad Tepes him from the Buda prison.

    8. He defeated the Hungarian army led by king Matthias Corvinus.

Stephen the Great and battle of Baia
    Battle of Baia(1467)

Believing that Stephen the Great, supported the nobles rebellion in Transylvania, Matthias Corvinus organized a military expedition to punish the Moldavian leader. According to some historians, the Hungarian king managed to raise an army of 40000 soldiers. The figure is hard to believe because when he crushed the nobles rebellion, his army numbered 8000 soldiers. It’s hard to believe that the Hungarian king could mobilize 32000 soldiers in a short time. Royal Hungarian forces entered Moldavia and looted villages. But unfortunately for the king of Hungary, the expedition has ended in disaster. Taking advantage of the element of surprise and knowledge of the terrain, Stephen the Great defeated Hungarian troops at Baia on December 15, 1467.

    9. Battle of Vaslui won by Szekler and Polish.

Stephen the Great waged 42 battles
    Battle of Vaslui(1475)

The famous Battle of Vaslui in 1475, attributed exclusively to Moldavians, was, in fact, a war waged with foreign allies. The Turks came with an overwhelming army, approximately 120000 soldiers and lost the battle in Vaslui in front of an army of 40000 people. A huge contribution to winning the battle they had come and the 5000 Szekler as an aid in Southeastern Transylvania. There are historical sources which show that in addition to these forces, there were 2,000 Hungarians, 2,000 knights from Poland and perhaps 1,000 Lithuanians. Stephen the Great put his Allies in the first line of battle in order to protect his own soldiers.

    10. Stephen`s sword kept in Topkapi Palace, probably not the original.Stephen the Great facts

One of the most precious objects from the prince of Moldavia is his sword. The sword was received by Stephen the Great after the Battle of Vaslui from Pope Sixtus VI in recognition of the decisive role of Moldavia in the defense of Christendom. The sword was made of Toledo steel, the best material available in the Middle Ages for the manufacture of weapons. According to legend, the sword was stolen by the Ottomans during the military campaign of Suleiman the Magnificent against Moldova in the year 1538. Since then, Prince`s sword was kept in the Topkapi Palace. Some historians believe that the sword from Topkapi Palace is not the original.

    11. Defender of Christianity or just a believer?

    Pope Sixtus IV
    Pope Sixtus IV

Pope Sixtus IV praised Stephen the Great in a letter (January 1477) as “Athleta Christi”. Salutation interpreted as a prince would have been a great defender of Christianity. In fact, Stephen the Great was a simple Christian who defended his country and the papacy has just made a courtesy policy. At that time, Moldavia was not the main gateway of Christianity. The road of the Ottoman armies, towards Central Europe, was passing through Serbia, not Moldavia. The route is determined by the geostrategic position of Moldavia. No Ottoman army ever planned to cross the Danube in Moldova, then cross the Carpathians, to enter in Hungary!

    12. Moldavia economy under Stephen the Great and conclusions.

Beyond the military and diplomatic qualities of the leader, Moldavia resistance against invaders mean the mobilization of significant resources. The question is: did Moldavia had these resources?

Moldavia’s population in that period, according to historical sources, was approximately 400,000 inhabitants. The vast majority lived in rural areas. The economy was predominantly agrarian. The country ruled by Stephan had only one advantage, control of important trade routes between East and Central Europe.

    Moldavia in 1483
    Moldavia in 1483

The wars waged by Stephen were costly. Of the 47-year reign, 13 years were peaceful. These wars meant not only huge material costs. All economic activity was affected by mobilization for war and enemy raids cause serious damage.

The fact that the invaders were defeated did not mean that they failed to do significant damage to villages in Moldavia.

Due to the lack of historical sources, we can not say with certainty how the Moldavia economy evolved during 1457-1504.

The relationships between Moldavia and the Ottoman Empire deteriorated, but those with Poland and Hungary were strengthened. Overall it can be said that the reign of Stephen had a positive impact on Moldavia.

The attack on Pearl Harbor from Japanese perspective: 15 rare photos

The attack on Pearl Harbor from Japanese perspective: 15 rare photos

The Japanese Empire attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on 7 December 1941, was a crucial moment in the history of the Second World War. Thus, the declaration of war against Japan, voted next day by the United States Congress, was the long awaited act by Great Britain and the USSR, who were no longer alone in the war against Nazi Germany.

The attack on Pearl Harbor from Japanese perspective: 15 rare photos

     Why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor?

The need for raw materials for the economy has led the Japanese ruling elite to choose the way to expansion. In 1931 Japan attacked and occupied Manchuria. In 1937 the Sino-Japanese war begins, which will last until 1945, and in September 1940 the Japanese forces invaded French Indochina.

In response to these aggressions, the US imposed an embargo on (steel scrap metal and aviation gasoline). What was the purpose of this measure? The US sought to stop the expansion of the imperial Japan, by depriving its economy and armies of vital resources and supplies.

Shortly after, Italy and Nazi Germany recognize Japan as the dominant power in the Far East by signing the Tripartite Pact on September 27, 1940. The expansionist policy of the Japanese did not stop there. In July 1941, after another agreement with the French government in Vichy, Japanese troops quickly occupied Southern Indochina.

On July 28, Roosevelt ordered an embargo on all oil sales. Also, all Japanese assets are frozen and Japanese ships were not allowed to enter US ports. The Japanese forces need oil if they hoped to continue the conquests in China. 88% of Japan’s oil imports were from the US.

Roosevelt believed that these economic measures would compel the Japanese to abandon their expansionist plans.

The Japanese knew they had reached an impasse and they didn’t have many options. If they wanted to continue the war against China they knew very well that they needed the vital resources.

Negotiations with the US have not progressed, several times Cordell Hull, Secretary of State, asked the Japanese to withdraw from Indochina and China. For the Japanese withdrawal, meant total humiliation and therefore they could not accept. In an attempt to compensate the US oil, they have tried to negotiate a deal with the Dutch Indies, but the result was not as expected.

Because diplomacy has failed, the Japanese decided it was time to launch the attack to get the vital resources that they could not obtain through negotiations. The Japanese believed that if they could occupy Dutch and British colonies in the Pacific, the issue of vital resources was thus solved.

    The Japanese Plan

In the way of the Japanese plans stood the US navy, with the base located at Pearl Harbor,

American fleet at Pearl Harbor was the only force that was able to intervene against the Japanese invasion. As long as the base and American fleet at Pearl Harbor were intact, the Japanese knew that the chances of success of operations in the Pacific were small.

Attacking the base at Pearl Harbor automatically mean war with the US. The Japanese knew that a victory in a long term war against the USA was impossible, because of their immense industrial capacity.

By quickly eliminating the threat represented by the US fleet in the Pacific, the Japanese forces hoped to cause a blow to the morale of the army and the American population. Americans shocked and demoralized after these attacks were then forced to come to the negotiation table.

According to Carl Smith, the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor represented the first step in the Japanese grand plan. The other two phases of the plan were: blitzkrieg for the conquest of Wake Islands, Gilberts, Northern Solomons, New Guinea, Java, Sumatra, Malaya, Burma, Thailand, the Philipines, and Borneo. The last stage was strictly defensive, any forces that invaded the newly conquered territories were to be destroyed. These last two stages were conditioned by the success of the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor.

Isoroku Yamamoto, commander-in-chief of the Combined Fleet, was responsible for organizing the attack that would take out of action for six months, the US Pacific Fleet. Although he never wanted war with the US, when the government decided that conflict is inevitable, Yamamoto did not hesitate to dedicate himself to the cause.

Commander-in-chief of the Japanese Combined Fleet began planning the attack since January 1941.

Yamamoto was part of the generation of naval commanders, who believed that air power will represent the future of naval battles.

Isoroku Yamamoto insisted on accelerating the production of aircraft carriers and even opposed to the construction of two battleships. As a consequence, the Japanese air force was to hold the decisive role in the attack on the American naval base.

According to military historian B. H. Liddle Hart, the Japanese naval force consisted of 6 aircraft carriers (Akagi, Kaga, Soryu, Hiryu, Shokaku, and Zuikaku) carrying 423 aircraft, of which 360 were fighter planes. Carriers were protected by an escort group made up of: two battleships, three cruisers, nine destroyers, and three submarines, eight ships were to deal with the supply of this impressive fleet. Also, five pocket submarines were to be used in this attack.

The Japanese naval force stopped at a distance of 275 miles north of the US base. Japanese planes took off from the aircraft carriers between 6:00-7:15 AM. The main targets of Japanese airplanes were: aircraft carriers and battleships. On the day of the attack, unfortunately for the Japanese, no American carrier was in port.

The second wave of attack hit the US base at 8:40 and ended at 9:45. During these attacks, the use of torpedo bombers proved to be decisive. In just 90 minutes, the Japanese have dealt a heavy blow to the US Navy. Of the 8 battleships, the Americans lost 4 (Arizona, Oklahoma, West Virginia and California), another 4 were damaged. Three light cruisers and three destroyers were also sunk, four other small vessels suffered significant damage.

Japanese aviation managed to destroy 188 planes and other 63 were badly damaged.

American casualties in human lives amounted to 2403 people and 1178 were wounded. Because the Japanese have achieved the element of surprise, their losses were small: 29 aircraft destroyed, and 5 pocket submarines.

    CONSEQUENCES

Japan’s surprise attack knocked out the US Pacific Fleet. Pearl Harbor attacks photos

The decision to not organize a third raid against the base at Pearl Harbor and after an expedition to destroy the surviving American aircraft carriers would later cost them dearly. The Japanese have committed another big mistake: because they focused heavily on battleships and aircraft carriers, many facilities at Pearl Harbor as fuel tanks and the submarine base remained intact and later the Americans used them for future operations.

Contrary to expectations, the morale of Americans did not fall after the attack and US were not brought to the negotiations table. Japanese attack managed just the opposite, the American people have united to take revenge for this action.

Until June 1942, the Japanese seemed unstoppable, their armies have seized all operational objectives: Philippines, Malaysia, Burma, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Guam, and Wake islands American. Meanwhile, US forces have recovered and exactly as the Japanese have estimated at 6 months after Peal Harbor they were ready for the great battle with the Japanese fleet in the Pacific. In June 1942 near Midway Atoll, US showed Japan’s enormous mistake that made through the attack of December 7, 1941. Ironically, the Japanese fleet from Midway was led by Admiral Nagumo, the same who led the attack on Pearl Harbor.

100 Greek Philosopher Quotes that will change your way of thinking

The impact of ancient Greece, on the European culture, is undeniable. Its cultural heritage is one of the richest in the world. The Greeks made a major contribution in almost all fields, from literature to architecture, from science to math and philosophy. Greece has offered the world two great gifts: philosophy and science. Before Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, many Greeks believed that many natural phenomena have explanations in divinity. Greek philosophers began to ask questions and looked for solutions and answers to these phenomena through research and experimentation. To understand the great Greek philosophers, it is important to know some of their most important quotes. We present you 100 Greek Philosopher Quotes that will change your way of thinking:

    I PLATO

1 Only the dead have seen the end of war.

2 The beginning is the most important part of the work.

3 One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.

4 We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.

5 Necessity is the mother of invention.Plato: Necessity is the mother of invention.6 Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

7 The greatest wealth is to live content with little.

8 Dictatorship naturally arises out of democracy, and the most aggravated form of tyranny and slavery out of the most extreme liberty.Plato quotes9 There are three classes of men; lovers of wisdom, lovers of honor, and lovers of gain.

10 Opinion is the medium between knowledge and ignorance.

    II ARISTOTLE

11 We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

12 The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.

13 Happiness depends upon ourselves.100 Greek Philosopher Quotes that will change your way of thinking14 Courage is the first of human qualities because it is the quality which guarantees the others

15 I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies; for the hardest victory is over self.

16 We make war that we may live in peace.

17 There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.

18 Democracy is the form of government in which the free are rulers.

19 The difference between a learned man and an ignorant one is the same as that between a living man and a corpse.

20 Education and morals make the good man, the good statesman, the good ruler.

    III SOCRATES

21 True knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing. Socrates: True knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing.22 I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think.

23 By all means, marry. If you get a good wife, you’ll become happy; if you get a bad one, you’ll become a philosopher.

24 Wisdom begins in wonder. Socrates: Wisdom begins in wonder.25 An honest man is always a child.

26 Once made equal to man, woman becomes his superior.

27 It is not living that matters, but living rightly.

28 He is a man of courage who does not run away, but remains at his post and fights against the enemy.

29 Be slow to fall into friendship, but when you are in, continue firm and constant.

30 From the deepest desires often come the deadliest hate.

    IV Pythagoras

31 Don’t try to cover your mistakes with false words. Rather, correct your mistakes with examination.

Don't try to cover your mistakes with false words. Rather, correct your mistakes with examination. 32 A fool is known by his speech, and a wise man by silence.

33 In anger, we should refrain both from speech and action.

34 Learn silence. With the quiet serenity of a meditative mind, listen, absorb, transcribe, and transform.

35 The oldest, shortest words – ‘yes’ and ‘no’ – are those which require the most thought.

36 Rest satisfied with doing well, and leave others to talk of you as they please.

37 Numbers have a way of taking a man by the hand and leading him down the path of reason.

38 If you’re asked: What is the silence? Respond: It is the first stone of the Wisdom’s temple. If you're asked: What is the silence? Respond: It is the first stone of the Wisdom's temple.39 Reason is immortal, all else mortal.

40 It is better to be silent, than to dispute with the ignorant.

    V Parmenides

41 You must learn all things, both the unshaken heart of persuasive truth and the opinions of mortals in which there is no true warranty. You must learn all things, both the unshaken heart of persuasive truth, and the opinions of mortals in which there is no true warranty. 42 Change is an illusion.

    43 Let reason alone decide.

44 Give me the power to produce fever and I’ll cure all disease.

45 The only roads of enquiry there are to think of: one, that it is and that it is not possible for it not to be, this is the path of persuasion (for truth is its companion); the other, that it is not and that it must not be — this I say to you is a path wholly unknowable.

46 There is one story left, one road: that it is. And on this road there are very many signs that, being, is uncreated and imperishable, whole, unique, unwavering, and complete.

47 Do not let habit, born from experience, force you along this road, directing aimless eye and echoing ear and tongue; but judge by reason the much contested proof which I have spoken.

48 It is indifferent to me where I am to begin, for there shall I return again.

49 We can speak and think only of what exists. And what exists is uncreated and imperishable for it is whole and unchanging and complete. It was not or nor shall be different since it is now, all at once, one and continuous.

50 Being alone is and nothing is altogether not.

    VI THALES

51 The most difficult thing in life is to know yourself.

thales quotes52 The past is certain, the future obscure.

53 Hope is the only good that is common to all men; those who have nothing else possess hope still.

54 Necessity is the strongest of things, for it rules everything.

55 Intellect is the swiftest of things, for it runs through everything.

56 There are three attributes for which I am grateful to Fortune: that I was born, first, human and not animal; second, man and not woman; and third, Greek and not barbarian.

57 God is the most ancient of all things, for he had no birth.thales quotes58 Avoid doing what you would blame others for doing.

59 Time is the wisest of all things that are; for it brings everything to light.

60 Who is happy? This is a person, who has a healthy body, is dowered with peace of mind and cultivates his talents.

    VII Anaxagoras

61 Everything has a natural explanation. The moon is not a god, but a great rock, and the sun a hot rock.anaxagoras important quotes62 The purpose of life is the investigation of the Sun, the Moon, and the heavens.

63 The seed of everything is in everything else.

64 The descent to Hades is the same from every place.

65 It is not I who have lost the Athenians, but the Athenians who have lost me.

66 Appearances are a glimpse of the unseen.

67 There is no smallest among the small and no largest among the large, but always something still smaller and something still larger.

68 The Greeks are wrong to recognize coming into being and perishing; for nothing comes into being nor perishes, but is rather compounded or dissolved from things that are. So they would be right to call coming into being composition and perishing dissolution.

69 The forces of rotation caused red hot masses of stones to be torn away from the Earth and to be thrown into the ether, and this is the origin of the stars.

70 The Sun is a mass of fiery stone, a little larger than Greece.

    VIII Epictetus

71 It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.epictetus quotes72 No man is free who is not master of himself.

73 Only the educated are free.Only the educated are free.74 Men are disturbed not by things, but by the view which they take of them.

75 It is the nature of the wise to resist pleasures, but the foolish to be a slave to them.

76 Keep silence for the most part, and speak only when you must, and then briefly.

77 All religions must be tolerated for every man must get to heaven in his own way.

78 If you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid.

79 The key is to keep company only with people who uplift you, whose presence calls forth your best.

80 It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows. It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows.

    IX Epicurus

81 If God listened to the prayers of men, all men would quickly have perished: for they are forever praying for evil against one another.epicurus quotes82 Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.

83 You don’t develop courage by being happy in your relationships everyday. You develop it by surviving difficult times and challenging adversity. epicurus most important quotes84 Death does not concern us because as long as we exist, death is not here. And when it does come, we no longer exist.

85 It is folly for a man to pray to the gods for that which he has the power to obtain by himself.

86 A free life cannot acquire many possessions because this is not easy to do without servility to mobs or monarchs.

87 The misfortune of the wise is better than the prosperity of the fool.

88 I never desired to please the rabble. What pleased them, I did not learn; and what I knew was far removed from their understanding.

89 It is better for you to be free of fear lying upon a pallet, than to have a golden couch and a rich table and be full of trouble.

90 Not what we have But what we enjoy, constitutes our abundance.

    X Zeno

91 Love is a God, who cooperates in securing the safety of the city.

92 No evil is honorable: but death is honorable; therefore death is not evil.

93 The reason why we have two ears and only one mouth is that we may listen the more and talk the less.zeno quotes94 Man conquers the world by conquering himself.Man conquers the world by conquering himself.95 Steel your sensibilities, so that life shall hurt you as little as possible.

96 Fate is the endless chain of causation, whereby things are; the reason or formula by which the world goes on.

97 Happiness is a good flow of life

98 Wellbeing is attained by little and little, and nevertheless is no little thing itself.

99 All things are parts of one single system, which is called nature; the individual life is good when it is in harmony with nature.

100 The end may be defined as life in accordance with nature or, in other words, in accordance with our own human nature as well as that of the universe.

Quitaly: EU's worst nightmare. Is it possible?

The Italians voted against the referendum to change the Constitution proposed by Matteo Renzi, the immediate consequence of this popular vote is the resignation of  the Prime Minister, as he promised in the campaign. The result of the referendum may trigger a serious political crisis in Italy with major implications for the EU economy. In this situation, many people wondered if the country will exit the eurozone.

There is also a word that describes the scenario: Quitaly. Will the monetary union collapse? This referendum would trigger a domino effect throughout the European Union, as some experts believe?

The Independent shows 5 reasons Italy will not leave the eurozone. Despite the negative vote for constitutional changes, it should not be seen as a vote against the European project.

    1. Most likely, the Italian President will appoint an interim government

In Italy, there are some fears that anti-euro party Five Star Movement led by comedian Beppe Grillo, will come to power.

But Renzi’s resignation would not necessarily mean early elections. President Sergio Mattarella has the option to appoint an Interim Executive and Cabinet does not suffer major changes.

Moreover, it is rumored that the new prime minister would be even who currently occupies the chair of Finance, Pier Carlo Padoan. And if that happens, then it will ensure continuity, so no rupture and suffered an earthquake on the political scene.

In addition, the new government could remain in power until 2018, when new elections are scheduled, and until then the wave of popularity that was “perched” Five Star Movement lately might break the shore.

    2. The electoral law

Renzi wanted to reform the structure of the Italian legislature, and one of the measures proposed by him paved the way for the country’s largest party can govern alone, without being forced to do any coalition.

The Five Star Movement – who is currently in second place in the preferences of voters – could take power in Italy without any problems if elections will be held this year.

Only the measure has not been adopted and is currently on the table of the Italian Constitutional Court, which must give a verdict. In addition, the interim government – if he is appointed president – could give implement this change, so Italy will return to the status quo.

    3. The Five Star Movement can not hold too easy a referendum on euro membership.

Quitaly: EU's worst nightmare. Is it possible? 1
Beppo Grillo, the leader of the Five Star Movement.

Italy’s constitution does not allow a referendum on issues of international treaties, including a ban which applies a voting on euro membership.

So if Five Star Movement will come to power, it must first hold a referendum to change the constitution and then another one in which Italians what to ask them whether they want to use the euro or to return to the lira.

    4. Most of the Italians are happy with the euro

And even if, Five Star Movement would be able to go through all these steps, the idea is that most of the population is pro-euro.

Moreover, we all know what happened in Greece, in the days when the country was sinking into debt and called for international help – investors have pulled money out there, and the population has withdrawn savings from banks. And the Italians would not want that to happen and them, especially as not doing as well as before and the economy is barely keeping afloat, while many banks are adrift.

    5. European Central Bank (ECB) will do everything possible to avoid the outbreak of a new financial crisis

The recent crisis in Italy ended in 2012 when the ECB agreed to buy back the debt of the country, a movement without which the country would have gone into bankruptcy because otherwise, it was very difficult to borrow from international markets over a long period of time.

So if the situation will deteriorate again, most likely the ECB will once again enter the scene.

Pancreatic cancer: Everything you need to know

Pancreatic cancer: Everything you need to know

Pancreatic cancer was brought to attention because of several famous figures diagnoses, including actor Patrick Swayze, who died in autumn 2009, co-founder of Apple, Steve Jobs and the famous tenor Luciano Pavarotti. Pancreatic cancer is the 4th in terms of mortality among all cancer types. It affects men and women equally.

It is the most aggressive type of cancer: only 4% of patients survive for five years. Annually, more than 200,000 cases are diagnosed, with a mortality rate of 98%. “It’s more common in the elderly. Over 80% are detected in an advanced stage. Between 10-30% of those operated survive five years. “

The pancreas is about 15 centimeters and forms a foam tube below the stomach, oblong, weighing about 70 grams. He has two major roles for the body: It produces digestive juices (enzymes) which help the intestines to break down food; It produces hormones, including insulin, which regulates sugar and starch levels in the body. Pancreatic cancer occurs when malignant cells grow, divide and spread in the tissues of the pancreas.

     Causes and risk factors

As in the case of some other cancers, pancreatic cancer causes are a mystery. Although some risk factors have been identified, they can not provide a complete picture.

As in the case of some other cancers, pancreatic cancer causes are a mystery. Although some have been identified risk factors, they can not provide a complete picture.

The causes of pancreatic cancer are still unknown.

Pancreatic cancer develops when a pancreatic cell shows a lesion in the DNA that drives it to multiply abnormally. A single cancer cell grows and divides rapidly becoming a tumor that does not respect the body’s natural limits. Finally, cancer cells can travel to distant parts of the body (metastasize) through the bloodstream or lymphatic system.

Nobody knows exactly how the DNA lesion occurs, leading to pancreatic cancer. Analyzing pancreatic cancers obtained by surgery show certain mutations occurring in almost all cases and others that vary in different patients.

Some of these mutations occur randomly. Other occurring in response to the human behavior or environmental experiences. Some of them may be inherited. (What, when and how things happen these mutations are beyond the grasp experts). When it accumulates enough mutations, a cell becomes malignant and a tumor begins to grow.

    Risk factors

No one fully understands the causes of pancreatic cancer but were identified certain risk factors for this cancer. These risk factors are more common in people who develop pancreatic cancer than the general population.

There are multiple risk factors for pancreatic cancer. Many patients with pancreatic cancer present no risk factor. About 1 person in 76 will develop pancreatic cancer. This is average for this type of cancer.

People who have risk factors have a higher risk of developing pancreatic cancer than those in the general population:

Genetic factors. 5 to 10% of patients with pancreatic cancer have a family member who has or had pancreatic cancer. Several different genes have been associated with this increased risk, although a pancreatic cancer gene has not been identified.

    Diabetes. Patients with diabetes have a higher risk of developing pancreatic cancer. There is still some controversy, in this case, determine if pancreatic cancer or if diabetes the pancreas begins to function poorly before cancer, causing diabetes;

    Smoking. Cigarette smoking is a known risk factor for pancreatic cancer. The more a person smokes, the higher the risk of triggering cancer increases. Ten years after quitting smoking, the risk becomes the same as the people who never smoked;

Obesity and inactivity. In a study realized with 88000 nurses, those who were obese (body mass index greater than 30) had a higher risk of developing pancreatic cancer. Nurses who did exercise had a lower risk of pancreatic cancer compared with those who did not exercise at all.

    Diet. What we eat can cause pancreatic cancer? A diet high in fat and meat (especially smoked meat and processed) has been linked to pancreatic cancer in some studies. A healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables lowers the risk of pancreatic cancer in other studies. However there are studies that suggest that there is an identifiable link between diet and pancreatic cancer;

    Lycopene and selenium. Studies have shown low levels of these nutrients in people who develop pancreatic cancer. But there is certainly evidence to show that low levels cause pancreatic cancer. Any diet that includes lean meats or red and yellow vegetables should provide adequate amounts of lycopene and selenium;

Elimination of risk factors for pancreatic cancer will not result in zero risks for this condition. But a healthy diet, maintaining a normal body weight and exercise frequently will improve overall health and reduce the risk for other health problems.

    Types of pancreatic cancers

Pancreatic cancer is classified according to the pancreas that affects: the area that produces digestive enzymes (exocrine) or one that produces insulin or other hormones (endocrine).

    Exocrine pancreas cancer

Although there are many different forms of pancreatic cancer, 95% of cases are adenocarcinomas of the pancreas. Other less common types of cancer of the exocrine pancreas are:

    – Adenosquamous carcinoma ;

    – Squamous cell carcinoma;

    – Small-cell carcinoma;

    – Acinar cell carcinoma;

    – Exocrine pancreas represents 95% of the pancreas, so it is not surprising that most cancers; pancreatic originate here.

    Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors

Other cells of the pancreas produce hormones which are discharged directly into the bloodstream (endocrine system). Cancer that arises from these cells called Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors or Pancreatic islet cell tumors.

Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors are rare, and are named according to the type of hormone they produce cells that originate from:

    – Islet (insulin-producing cells from);

    – glucagonoma (the glucagon-producing cells);

    – Somatostatinoma (from somatostatin-producing cells);

    – Gastrinoma (gastrin-producing cells from);

    – VIPoma (from vasoactive intestinal peptide-producing cells).

Endocrine tumors are usually not cancer; They are benign tumors. These benign tumors are not considered pancreatic cancer. However, they can grow more or may secrete abnormal amounts of hormones, causing medical problems.

Ampullary cancer (Carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater )

It is cancer that develops in the place where the duct draining the pancreas joins the small intestine (called an opening ampulla). Although technically not cancer, pancreatic cancer, ampullary cause symptoms similar to those of pancreatic cancer, and treatment is similar.

Pancreatic cancer often goes unnoticed until it is advanced and difficult to treat. In most cases, the symptoms appear only when cancer has grown and begun to spread to other organs. Since 95% of pancreatic cancers are adenocarcinoma, will be first described its symptoms, followed by symptoms of cancer rarest forms.

    Local symptoms

Initially, pancreatic cancer tends to be quiet and painless. By the time that is large enough to cause symptoms, the disease has already grown beyond the pancreas.

At this time, the symptoms depend on the location of pancreatic cancer:

    -positive pancreatic head pancreas cause symptoms such as weight loss, jaundice (yellow skin) fat in the stool, with or without abdominal pain;

    – Pancreatic cancer in the body or tail of the pancreas pancreases usually causes abdominal pain and weight loss.

In general, the symptoms appear earlier if the cancer is localized in the head pancreases compared to those located in the body or tail of the pancreas.

    Gastrointestinal symptoms

Because pancreatic cancer is developed around areas important to the digestive system, gastrointestinal symptoms are often prevalent:

    – Abdominal pain. More than 80% of patients with pancreatic cancer shows at some abdominal pain as the tumor grows. Pancreatic cancer can cause dull pain in the upper abdomen and back pain. Pain may be occasional;

    – Abdominal bloating. Some patients with pancreatic cancer have a feeling of saturation although eating less abdominal bloating or feeling uncomfortable;

    – Nausea;

    – Diarrhoea;

    – Fat in the stool (steatorrhea). As pancreatic cancer decreases the ability of the pancreas to secrete enzymes to digest fat, more fat in the stool undigested reach. These fatty stools can have a pungent odor and float more than normal;

Colored chair. If the duct that drains bile to the intestine is blocked by pancreatic cancer, it may lose his seat brown color and becomes pale or clay-colored. And urine may become darker.

     General symptoms

As it grows and spreads, pancreatic cancer affects the whole body.

    General symptoms may include:

    – weight loss;

    – Malaise;

    – Loss of appetite;

    – Increased blood sugar. Some patients with pancreatic cancer develop diabetes because of cancer that affects the ability of the pancreas to produce insulin. (However, the vast majority of patients with newly discovered diabetes do not suffer from pancreatic cancer).

     Skin symptoms

Jaundice because pancreatic cancer blocks the duct that carries bile into the intestine (common bile duct), the components of bile builds up in the blood. They color the skin and sclera yellow eyes, a medical condition called jaundice.

Pruritus: sometimes patients with pancreatic cancer shows pruritus (itching) all over the body. Often this condition is responsible for the presence of bile in the blood.

    Rare symptoms

Islet cell tumors, also called neuroendocrine tumors occur in pancreatic cells that secrete hormones. These tumors can be malignant (cancer) or benign (non-cancerous). Pancreatic islet tumors are rare.

As in the case of adenocarcinoma, islet cell cancer can cause abdominal pain, weight loss, nausea, and vomiting. Both benign and malignant tumors of the islet cells can produce too many hormones.

These hormones released from the tumor can cause the following symptoms:

    – Insulinoma (excess of insulin): sweating, anxiety, headaches and loss of consciousness due to low blood sugar;

    – Hyperglucagonemia (excess of glucagon): diarrhea, excessive thirst or urination, weight loss;

    – Gastrinoma (excess of gastrin): abdominal pain, stomach ulcers that do not heal, gastroesophageal reflux, weight loss;

    – Somatostatinoma (excess of somatostatin): weight loss, abdominal pain, stool with undigested fat, smelly;

    – VIPoma(vasoactive intestinal peptide excess): abdominal cramps, watery diarrhea, flushing.

    Diagnose

The key element of this disease is the timely diagnosis. A doctor can not see or feel a tumor during a routine exam. To help establish the diagnosis and determine what treatment should be followed, imaging tests should be performed. The final diagnosis can be determined from a biopsy, a sample of tissue is taken and subsequently analyzed.

    Treatment

In the last 25 years, there has been little progress regarding the treatment of patients with pancreatic cancer. Currently, there are three major therapeutic approaches: surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy.

Surgery involves removing cancer before it spreads to surrounding organs and is the only effective treatment for pancreatic cancer. It is possible only in the initial stages of the disease when very few patients are diagnosed. For advanced disease, representing most situations, based on the treatment option remains chemotherapy and / or radiotherapy, which aims at slowing disease progression and improve the quality of life.

Chemotherapy is a treatment method based on drugs that stop the growth of cancer cells, while radiation therapy uses radiation energy X for the same purpose.

In the last 10 years, the standard treatment for advanced pancreatic cancer was based chemotherapy with gemcitabine. Chemotherapy in combination with radiotherapy or not is the current standard treatment for this disease.

How many communist states are there in the world?

During the Cold War, the entire world was divided politically into democratic and communist states. After the collapse of the bipolar system led by the Soviet Union, many states have renounced communism, some adopting a form of socialism, some of the authoritarianism, other states have adopted the democratic system and its values. Today, worldwide there are 5 communist states, each trying to adapt as best as they can to the capitalist system.

1 ChinaHow many communist states are there in the world? The Chinese civilization is one of the most ancient and fascinating histories. Organized as an empire for centuries, China fell to the communists in 1949, when, on 1 October, the Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mao Zedong proclaimed the establishment of the PRC. China’s first communist leader remained in history for its policies that have been applied with force in the country.

Under his leadership, Mao initiated a series of reforms, which were introduced by force in the population, which was severely persecuted.

In 1953 Mao launched the first Five Year Plan. At the end of this plan, China would become a major world economic power. After the period in which China’s economy has suffered because of the “Great Leap Forward” and the Cultural Revolution, serious reforms were needed to restore the economy. These reforms were presented for the first time by Premier Zhou Enlai in January 1975.

But because of political battles for succession that followed the death of Zhou and Mao, the implementation of the “Four modernizations”(industry, agriculture, science and technology and national defense) began in December 1978, when Deng Xiaoping took power. These reforms have enabled China’s economic modernization. Politically, however, nothing has changed, the Communist Party remains the only political force in the country.

    2 Cuba

How many communist states are there in the world?
Fidel Castro in Havana, after the victory of the revolution

Cuba is a parliamentary republic led by a Communist Party wich has a monopoly on power politics. As the Constitution says Cuban Communist Party “is the supreme guiding force of society and the State”. In 1959, Fidel Castro’s revolutionaries have ousted dictator Fulgencio Batista, Cuba was a country with enormous social inequalities and with an elite enriched thanks to sugar trade and US companies.

The Agrarian Reform Law and the nationalization of North American properties in the island were the first major economic measures after the triumph of the Revolution.

In 1961, in the middle of Bay of Pigs invasion or beach Giro, Fidel Castro proclaimed the socialist character of the Cuban Revolution while clashes with the US were becoming increasingly intense.

In the complex scenario of the Cold War, Cuba was forced to ally with the Soviet Union and turned into its satellite in the Caribbean: thanks to this the country received for three decades 20 billion dollars that allowed a decent living of the population until the late ’80s.

Dissolution of the USSR revealed a strong dependence on Moscow, the Cuban economy has suffered a decline of 40% and entered a tough period of poverty that marked generations of Cubans.

Fidel Castro was forced to open the island to foreign tourists, foreign investment and strong currency to avoid the dissolution of the entire system.

At the dawn of the XXI century, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez became the ally and savior of the Cuban communist regime.

The island began to receive 100,000 barrels of oil daily from Caracas that it was paying them with medical, educational and sporting experience. Fidel Castro took full advantage through the exports to third world countries.

Neither this formula and no tourism momentum did not allow Cuba to overcome economic constraints.

With the illness and retirement of Fidel in 2008, his brother, Raul began the fight to improve the economic situation in a country where the average wage is $ 20 per month.

Raul has proposed and started to implement a set of measures to stimulate private enterprise in Cuba. The state sector of the economy still remains dominant.

The question remains how long the Cuban political system will survive after the death of Fidel Castro this year.

3 VietnamHow many communist states are there in the world? After the Japanese occupation of the 1940s, Vietnam had fought against the French occupation of Indochina War. In 1954, France was defeated. Subsequently, Vietnam has been politically divided into two rival states – North and South. The conflict escalated and the US became involved in the Cold War context. In 1975, the Vietnam War ended in victory for the North. Then the country was unified under Communist government – a state located in poverty and political isolation. In 1986, the government initiated a series of economic and political reforms that have begun to bring the country’s integration into the world economy. In 2000, Vietnam established diplomatic relations with almost all countries. By 2020, the communist government’s plan is to bring Vietnam among developed nations.

4 LaosHow many communist states are there in the world? The territory of Laos has been inhabited since ancient times by different populations that peaked their cultural development, social and economic in the fourth millennium BC Laos is bordered by Burma, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand.

From 1941 to 1945, it was under Japanese occupation. In 1945, the Japanese were defeated by communist guerrillas who proclaimed the independent state of Pathet Lao. But they were defeated by the French who established the kingdom under French protectorate. The country gained independence from the French Union in 1953. But in 1950 civil war broke out between communists and monarchists, war will end in 1975 with the abolition of the monarchy. From 1975 to 1989, Vietnamese troops stationed here which strongly influenced the economic, political and social development of Laos. The economy of Laos followed the communist model. When it became obvious that this economic system was not working, in 1986 the regime decided it was time for economic reforms. With the introduction of the new reforms, economic growth reached approximately 8% annually, even with this growth rate, Laos remains one of the poorest countries in Asia. Corruption remains a major problem in this country. The great majority of its population lives in rural areas and works in agriculture and the infrastructure is still poor. In 1997, the state became a member of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations – Association of Southeast Asian Nations), but still remained in orbit Vietnam.

5 North KoreaHow many communist states are there in the world? After the liberation of Korea from Japanese occupation at the end of the Second World War, the state was divided into two parts by the United Nations, bounded by 38th parallel North Korea would be administered by the USSR, and the South, US. So, in 1948, it was proclaimed the People’s Republic of Korea.

According to the Constitution, North Korea is a socialist republic, but not Stalinist. It’s an absolute dictatorship where Kim Il-sung Juche ideology has replaced Marxism. With the death of Kim Il Sung, he was appointed “Eternal President of the Republic”. The position of President of North Korea remained vacant, and his son Kim Jong Il became General Secretary of the WPK. The state apparatus is dominated by the Workers’ Party of Korea(WPK), which has about three million members. There are also two minor parties, but they recognize the role of leader of the WPK and are dominated by it.

North Korea has a centralized economy, heavy industry and manufacturing of weapons having the highest priority. By the mid-70s, the GDP of North Korea was the same as that of South Korea. But since 1974 the South Korean economy has experienced an amazing advance. On the other hand, the North Korean economy has been affected by the collapse of the USSR, and famine in 1991. In the infographic below you can see the huge differences between the two Koreas. North Korea’s economy is backward in all categories because of the disastrous policies of the leaders.
